update- I reinstalled OSX and still have the problem so I guess it is a hardware problem. I would still welcome any suggestions if you know anything about this type of problem.

- Unfortunately, the adapter is no longer available. Sorry Rodney. Did you get the Powerbook repaired? Where do you work? I have spent time at TI and E-Systems. I used to sell QC test equipment.
