Thx Ed for the invite. My fellow armed forces buddy, Don, carried on without you yesterday and it wasn't pretty. Both Don and I have armed thoughts on the matter. We probably need to have a discussion group. Later...

Congratulations Bob and sons. Your family and mine carry a fine tradition. My only sibling David, was a captain in the Air Force and taught Electronic Warfare while flying B-52s. My father was a B-17, B-24, B-25 instructor pilot in WWII. My grandfather served in WWI and I have other ancestry that served in the Civil war and Revolutionary war. I am descended from a long line of patriot warriors. Very proud of all. I was a Sergeant in the Air Force serving in Viet Nam and Thailand forty years ago this year.

Went to CA for my oldest son's assumption of command in July. He is an Air Force Lt. Col. and assumed command of the 21st Space Operations Squadron at Onizuka Air Force Station, CA (near Moffet Field-N.A.S.). He's the one on the right of the photo. My youngest son is XO of his USMC Cobra helicopter squadron, he is on the left of the photo. Couldn't be prouder of both of them

Was in USAF, SAC, 1968 -'72. Enlisted, worked Avionics instruments on KC-135 and B-52 D & F models. We used very specialized computer equipment for the Collins FD-109 system, mostly forced logic response lights from programmed sequences of flipping switches. The equipment was so specialized and programmed that we were more like monkeys flipping switches, looking at a manual to see what to do if certain lights did or did not come on. Lots of logic gates, a touch of boolean (sp?) algebra. But I've forgotten it all. Oh yeah, there were true airspeed computers tied in to our instruments, but we just changed out the black box if there was a problem. And then there were the computers that kept up with us personnel, but I never touched one. We were using IBM selectric typewriters for our reports. And really, so far I've not gone much beyond i-tunes and e-mail with my macbook pro. Too locked into my Roland VS-1824 for music production these days.

Sorry, Ed. I can only wish. But, when I was in the military (middle 1950's - Korean war) there were no computers.
