The Apple Corps

iPhoto has gone through a few changes since I started using it, but I would like to solve a problem that's been persistent, even in v. 8.1 which I am currently using. Here it is. When I download photos to my computer with iPhoto and later assign them some ID, e.g, "Uncle Pete in Florida," the photo loses that ID when I try to move the photo to another file (outside iPhoto) and the photo's ID reverts to something like DSC00147. How can I keep that from happening? I am trying to work on some photo archives for an organization, and I certainly don't want to re-caption every photo.

Hi Patrick,
when you change the name of a picture within iPhoto, it doesn't change the filename, it only changes the title of the photo within the iPhoto database. If you want iPhoto to actually change the filename for you, you have to export the file [File->export]. When you export the file, set the File Name parameter to "Use title." This way iPhoto will create a new file with the filename using the ID or Title that you set within iPhoto.

Hi John,
And thank you for the information. I just tried it, and, of course, your directions worked perfectly.
