Gee Whiz, a little update to Aperture today. Feels like a tease. This is the only remaining Apple Pro application not yet updated.

I predict that the new Aperture will require Snow Leopard and will be announced after Snow Leopard is available. I predict that it will be the first Pro App to be 64 bit. We shall see. Aperture has to compete with the already 64 bit Lightroom from Adobe.

Still waiting for Aperture upgrade. At least Lightroom the Adobe competitor is more expensive.

Far as I know Aperture is not yet updated as of 7-27-09. So the Twitter headline about pro apps all updated is somewhat misleading to me. Latest version of Aperture is 2.1.3. Is it overdue? Yes.

Derek Story professional photographer and Aperture instructor has a new video tutorial on Lynda.com called iPhoto to Aperture Going Pro. It is 2.67 hours of instruction. Highly recommended. He also has four other courses on Aperture on Lynda.com as well as five courses on iPhoto and one on Digital Photography Principles: The Camera. Lastly, Derek has podcasts.

Apple came out with a tease yesterday. A patch for Aperture to take us to 2.1.3. I am expecting a major update version any day now. Aperture 3.0 I'm hoping. All the pro Apple apps are due for a major upgrade for 64 bit to allow more than one core to be used and more than 4 Gb of ram.

Aperture round trip to photoshop works well. This is especially helpful for color correction of skin tones using curves. I have many photos that have a blue tint. I have learned that in skin tone values in RGB, red is greater that green is greater than blue. There is normally twice as much red as green and twice as much green as blue. So if the blue value in a skin tone is higher than green or red then blue is too high. I will be happy to demonstrate this to anyone interested. Happy color adjustments.

With all the attention iPhoto 09 is getting do not dismay if you own or use Aperture instead. Aperture 3 is rumored to be just around the corner. I for one look forward to it. Aperture's metadata alone trumps iPhoto.

New Aperture 2.0 book -Apple Aperture 2: A workflow guide for digital photographers. This one just out in October 2008 gives insight on the controls in Apertures adjustments HUD. It tells the reader how much and what the effect is. Very helpful. Available at Nerd Books in Richardson for 35% off --Nerdbooks.com. They are located within about three miles of our meeting place and use Macs to let you check youself out. I have saved many dollars there. Wonderful place.
