I just had the opportunity to try the iRecord Pro device today. I downloaded the software but was unable to get it to recognize the device and the app kept quitting on me. The device seemed to be working with the lights (red, orange and green) sequencing correctly.
I believe I have the same one used as a demo last meeting. Not sure what to do at this point.
I just spoke with Dr Khan about the device. He is very reachable. Just send an email. (See the website iRecord.com). The device is designed to work with Intel based macs. Will not work with a PowerPC mac. I had similar problems initially, but it now works fine on my Intel iMac. The video monitoring option did not work during recording. Dr Khan has promised to send me an update tomorrow to fix that. But it worked perfectly with my iphone and did work with my iMac. I moved the footage into iMovie and had fun.
Paul,
thank you very much for the info. I will give it a try. I was using it on my powerPC mac but I have an intel based mac. I will ask for the update too. It will really answer my needs if it works.
I'll let you know. thanks again. Bernie
I also purchased the iRecord Pro from Dr. Khan at the Apple Corps meeting he attended and have had problems as well using this device (PowerPC dual G5 running 10.5.6) ... could not get it to work at all. Fortunately I have a PC that I use for cross-platform testing, etc. and it works just fine on that. Were it not for the fact that I can at least use this device on my PC I would be greatly disappointed. Perhaps I missed it, but nowhere on the included paperwork can I find info that states this device is Intel only, and if he mentioned it during the meeting I also must have missed it. Other than that I can say that the device itself works as advertised and I have been cranking through my old video tapes with very good results.
I just sent an email to Dr. Khan. We have spoken about these issues and he has a mac expert trying to correct the issue of not seeing the video while recording to a mac. (It does work on a PC.) I am hopeful that he will have a solution soon, but expect it will remain an Intel-based mac device. I have invited him to call in during our board meeting tomorrow if he wants to talk to our ACD Board members so we can communicate with all the folks who purchased iRecord Pro. Based on a year plus of interacting with him I am confident things will work out. He has told me it is a Quicktime issue.
Call Dr Khan at iRecord. He is very accessible. He just worked with me to get my new 1.5T HDD working with iRecord (successfully). You can call him at 408-727-3904.
