So today I got to unboxing some of the new iMac systems and quickly found out that the hard drives we used on the previous models for Time Machine would not work because all the new Macs are using Firewire 800. I thought to myself "400 must be dead now!". TUAW posted the video above confirming my thought.
I'm not totally sad though. Firewire 800 is so much faster and I love how my backup drives just takes data and zips it through as if it was nothing. It's really pleasing. I know that the IEEE Council approved not long ago for faster Firewire standards so we may see those in future Macs as well. Luckily the newer standards use the same pin-set as FW800.
